Esy’s Adventurous Trip to the States
As a single girl I worked for a mobilephone company. It was a nice job, with good benefits. My only problem was that I could not use the English language – which I liked very much, and wanted to reach an advanced level. The best way for that is to spend time in a native speaking environment. For this reason I wanted to live abroad for a while.
I had a friend who knew about this wish of mine, and through her I got to know about an American family that wanted a nany for their daughters for that summer. After a few “getting to know each-other emails” and my firend’s recommendation the mom (Debbie) bought the air tickets for me. I decided to quit my job because of this American trip, but I only wanted to do it after receiving the tickets. The mailman did not come but Debbie emailed me that the tickets had disappeared. She grabbed them with the daily outgoing mail and put them in the mailbox at the post office. By the time she realized this and went back, they took the outgoing mail of the day. The only thing we could do was waiting because they said that the rambling mail would be sent back to the post office they came from. We prayed hard. The tickets did not show up. Time was passing and I had to make a decision, should I quit my job hoping that the air-tickets will be found or stay at my place? After some struggling and prayer I handed in my notice to quit. The tickets were still not found. Maybe I just need to change my job, this is the reason of this whole thing!?
Debbie had an idea: she suggested me to pack my things and go to the airport on the day of my trip, go to the airline’s desk and tell them that I have reservation on this airplane, I do not have the tickets but I want to travel to Chicago. Well…. what a wild idea! Okay, maybe they let me on the plane in Budapest and I arrive to London. But what if they do not let me to continue my trip to the US? I did not have the money to buy another ticket to come home. After all, it seemed that this is my olny chance, but I did not want to be ridiculed and I’m not the type who can easily convine strangers.
One night this was my bedtime prayer: “Lord, if this really is what I need to do, please let me know somehow!” And then something happened that had never happed to me before neither eversince. I fell asleep and had a dream: I was before a journey, standig beside a huge, white ship in the harbor. And certain people in my dream told me how to get on this ship, which stairs to choose. And yet, I chose another back, narrow one. I was moving upstairs and as I got to the end, I saw that the door was closed. I could not go on. I was bangin on it but nobody opened it and I could not get in either. I woke up. I thought through my dream and understood that it was God talking to me! If I do not do what Debbie suggested, I’m not going to America. Thank you Lord! This was a straight answer to my prayer!
On the day of my leaving I was standing at the airline’s desk telling my story to the lady. She asked for my passport and searched for my name on her computer and after a few minutets of checking handed me my air tickets. All of them. To the USA and tha way back.
This is how that six months began which I spent in the US in the end that time. It was a blessed half a year, I never regreted that I left the mobilephone company. I learned English quite well and it was a good life and God experience. Before a few weeks of my return Debbie found the original airtickets between her desk and the wall.
